Sheridan Early Childhood Centres Website

The Mississauga Civic Centre Child Care Centre is located at 300 City Centre Drive Mississauga, Ontario. It is one of Sheridan College lab schools, where students are able to gain work experience through their field placement. This child care centre “provides high quality programming based on the High Scope philosophy of education” (Early Childhood Centres, n.d.). The children are known as active learners because they have op

portunity to explore and express their ideas and interests and the educators follow the child’s lead.
Their program provides children in various age groups to gain learning experiences which impact their social, emotional physical and cognitive domains. “The children are supported in a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment that promotes self-esteem and self-confidence and provides ongoing opportunity for decision-making and problem solving.” (Early Childhood Centres, n.d.).

As I visited the Mississauga Civic Centre Child Care Centre’s website, there were several things which captured my eye instantly. I recognized that the webpage was very simple, straight forward, and well organized for anyone navigating through the website. I noticed on the sidebar it provided options where I was able to find more information about the centre, for example philosophy, enrolment, program, schedule of service, fees/subsidy, our staff/visitors, and most importantly contact information.

The website’s layout appears to be professional due to its simplicity. It is clear and concise which allows the user to

retrieve the information that they’re looking for in a timely manner. The website looks very conservative, using white and blue colour schemes. There is one picture of children at the top of the page.

The address of the Mississauga Civic Centre Child Care Centre is located at the bottom of the website. Also, on the ‘Contact Us’ button, it states the address again as well as “Find us on Mapquest” link, which then redirects the user.
The target audience for this website is mostly directed towards parents looking for child care service within the Mississauga area. The information provided on this website is considered to be useful and gives an insight to what kind of curriculum, program, and services it caters to. For example, parents are aware that Mississauga Civic Centre Child Care Centre is a training site for students enrolled in the Early Childhood Education Program at Sheridan College.

In my opinion, this website allows the user to explore and search for important information. It does not allow the users to get lost within the website because everything is kept simple. However there can be changes which could essentially make the website more appealing to attract parents and the general public. As an educator, I’ve visited many child care centres’ websites to get an understanding of the program, curriculum, and events that the centre offers. Majority of the time, there were pictures of children’s artwork relating to the curriculum, as well as images of what the centre looks like, inside and out. Parents who are looking into child care services may find it easier to see what the centre actually looks like before they call in for a visit. Overall, the Mississauga Civic Centre Child Care Centre’s website is accessible and user friendly for parents to explore.
